Do you have a favourite TV show/s that you watch with your children?
I believe in connecting with your children through everyday activities. Activities include having a common TV program that you and your children absolutely love and watch together.
Remember that everything you do together with your children, you are opening up to create the CONNECTION with them.
Now that my children are bigger, we do not spend as much time together as we used to. So the time we now spend with them is dinner and occasional lunches when they are on Uni breaks.
However, ‘them being busy’ should not stop parents from “claiming” some time with their children. So one of the many ways I chose to connect with them through the TV programs!
My son enjoys SVU, so once a week we will either watch it together or he would record it and we would watch it during the weekend. There were times I had missed too many episodes, so he had to fill me in.
As for my daughter, she is a dog lover so the Dog Whisperer would be our show that we watch together. We used to volunteer at the dog shelter as well.
What can we talk about from the program? We discuss the plot, the story issues, what our thoughts are about it, about human and animal behavior… and so it goes on.
So you see, everything that you do together with your children gives you the opportunity to create the connections with them. Doing activities together opens up further communication, and this gives you a fantastic opportunity to understand your children better. You create that level of emotional connection with your child, and through their slightest actions and reactions you are able to read their emotions easily.
That’s my wish for you!
Have a connected day with your family!
