Everyday, we are busy with our day to day life, looking after our families, friends, work…. Sometimes we tend to forget about ourselves. You have to give yourself permission to take time out and connect with yourself, your spouse, your family and friends.
On the weekend, my husband and I had the opportunity to attend the AFL grand final in Melbourne. We planned to take a few days away from work and catch up with our friends and families there. Melbourne had been home during our university days, our early working days and both our children were born there. We took the opportunity to catch up with ex-colleagues, university friends, as well my cousin and family.
We left for Melbourne the day before the AFL Grand Final, there were many supporters on the plane with us. The atmosphere at the airport was electrifying, and the momentum building as we approached the city.
I had a few hours to myself to wonder and reconnect to the city that we spent 8 years in. So much had changed since we were there. There are so many cafés and eateries, beautifully decorated and set up, and on top that, the weather was truly beautiful and pleasant.
The whole of Melbourne city was buzzing with music, and visitors were pouring in from all over Australia – particularly from Western Australia to support their team in the Grand Final. I couldn’t ask for a better day to start our short break. I was grateful for the few hours to reconnect with the city that we spent many good years in.
A gathering with our university mates followed that night, which was a highlight. We knew each other during our universities days, but we had lost touch with a few of them. We had fun catching up and sharing our lives of the past 20 years. Connecting after all this time was special.
The next day was the BIG day. After another gathering with my friends, we headed off to the Grand Final together with our good friends. There were one hundred thousand supporters at the venue; the atmosphere were electrifying and the weather was perfect. We cheered, cheered and cheered. For a minute, we forgot we were grown ups and our inner child were having all the fun… What better way to cheer than with one hundred thousand enthusiastic supporters together? What fun!
After a few visits to some beautiful eateries together with friends and relatives, we headed back home.
We felt refreshed, and felt great after reconnecting with the place that we spent a few years; but most of all, reconnecting with our friends meant a great deal.
We are busy everyday. This short break meant that we had taken the opportunity to give ourselves permission to have some FUN, to connect with our friends and as a couple. But most of all, we need to remember to connect to ourselves. There is the place where we will find happiness, joy and abundance!
Give yourself permission to Reconnect to Yourself and have Fun TODAY!
