Please take time to think and reflect. This is my story, but the real lessons are described at the end of the enews.
While writing this eNews, I was on my way back to Australia and reflecting on what has just happened, and on what my family and I have been through the past few weeks…sharing my dad’s journey with his health.
My Dad just had an amputation of one of his legs (below the knee). In fact, he had six operations altogether over the past 3 months. All the doctors were trying to save as much of his foot as possible, but in the end they had no choice but to take off half of his leg, unfortunately, but the recovery rate is faster and less painful.
Health – life is precious
While looking after my dad in the hospital, I was seeing some patients being so ill and helpless, some just recovering from major operations, few did not make it… These scenes just make one realise how fragile and precious life is. Just like my Dad, one minute he was healthy and walking, then within a few weeks he had lost part of his leg, but yet he is luckier than so many more.
One would wonder whether those who did not make it, were there any more things that they would have liked to have done? To be with children or family members and really communicate? To be able to say…?
If you are familiar with the the 5 regrets of dying by Bonnie Ware – have the courage to live the life true to yourself, had not worked so hard, have the courage to express your feelings, had kept in touch with friends and families and live happier life…
So make time for what is important to you, and most of all, make time for your family and friends, and live without regrets.
