No matter how busy you are, you need to make time for some FUN in your life. Fun with your family, fun with your spouse or just do something FUN for yourself. Fun is a wonderful natural medicine.
Why is FUN important?
Doing something fun is a source of relaxation and stimulation both for the brain and body. It relaxes both body and mind, relieves stress and turns “negative” emotions into positive experiences, while letting you to reconnect to self, being happier and being more creative.
Fun also helps you to forget about the worries from work or other responsibilities, and fin activities enable you to connect with your children at that present moment.
Also once your body is in a more relaxed state, you are in a better position to connect, communicate, be more playful and feel happy.
How to have FUN with your children?
Fun time with your children can be in the form of doing whatever that makes you and your children happy. Fun can be doing something really silly like rolling on the grass, crawling around the house, hopping into a puddle of water, walking in the rain or something you and your children would laugh about.
Alternatively, go bowling, go walking along the beach, enjoy a meal together, play a game together, do dancing, start singing etc…
By the end of the day, just remember that your children will remember how they FEEL about the situation or experiences that you shared together, and not what you tell them.
Family Fun time and traditions
Family fun time is important for bonding and connecting as well as for building strong family identities or traditions.
I remember when I was growing up, it was like our family tradition that our families would meet up at a holiday house at Penang Hill together for two weeks every year. The aim, of course, was to connect and deepen the relationships with each other in the family group.
Those were the best times as far as I could remember. We (all the kids, including me) would have two full weeks of unstructured play with all our cousins; we were free to explore the hill sides, go on morning walks, be free to spend our hard earned pocket money. We learnt to budget for two weeks, be as creative as we possibly could, and most of all, we had someone cook for us, so both adults and children could focus on having tons of FUN.
That hill trip was like one of our annual traditions. We would head up the hill every year. So enjoy something fun with your family and make it a family tradition.
Play and adults
Refer to the blog: Play and Adults where I emphasise about the importance of play and fun for adults, and how it helps to re-connect to ourselves, reconnect as couple, and be healthy with regard to our physical and social health issues.
Have FUN with your adult friends
I know of some elderly friends who would meet up weekly for a game of golf at the local golf club, after that they meet up for lunch and have a card game to follow. These are sociable and fun activities.
Many of my friends would have a game of badminton, tennis, lawn bowling etc.
Make time to inject fun and recreation in your hectic and busy life outside of work and family duties; it is important to maintain your health and well being.
So have fun day with your family.
